The route north through the Moraca canyon
From Podgorica you follow the E65/E80 corridor north and then peel up into the Moraca river canyon, where the road threads between grey rock walls and the water runs far below. What to see and where to stop
The Djurdjevica Tara bridge is the set-piece of this route, a tall stone arch spanning the Tara canyon, and it is worth pulling over for photos and a coffee at the little stalls nearby. Zabljak itself is the main base for Durmitor National Park, with the Black Lake a short drive or walk from town and dozens of peaks and trails fanning out from there. No border, but real mountain roads
This is an entirely domestic route, so there is no frontier and no extra paperwork; your standard rental documents are all you carry. What matters instead is the road surface and the season. Aim to leave early so you reach Zabljak with the day still ahead of you, fuel up before the climb since stations thin out in the mountains, and keep an eye on daylight for the drive back down through the canyon.
