Podgorica Airport to Kotor: Driving the 85 km to the Bay
Podgorica Airport to Kotor is roughly 85 km and about 80 minutes of genuinely easy driving, and doing it yourself in a rental car is the simplest way to reach the bay. You walk out of arrivals, load your bags, and point the car south toward the Sozina tunnel; there is no shuttle to wait for, no transfer to share, and no border to cross. The road drops you out of the tunnel near the coast and then follows the water round to Kotor, so the last stretch is scenery rather than motorway. The road: airport, Sozina tunnel, then the coast

Before the tunnel existed drivers had to climb the old serpentine road over the ridge, but today you glide through in a few minutes and emerge close to the Adriatic. From there the E65/E80 hugs the shoreline before you turn into the Bay of Kotor and trace its edge to the town. Worth a stop along the way
The drive is short enough to do in one go, but it passes some of the best of coastal Montenegro if you want to break it up. Once you reach the water near Sutomore and Bar you are on the open coast, and the road north toward the bay gives you glimpses of Budva and the Sveti Stefan islet if you detour slightly. As you round into the Bay of Kotor itself the pace naturally slows, with Perast, its two tiny islands, and a string of waterfront cafes strung along the shore before Kotor. Give yourself an extra hour and the transfer turns into a proper first afternoon.
Self-drive versus a booked transfer
A private transfer will meet you at the door, but it drops you at your Kotor hotel and then leaves, taking your freedom with it. With your own car you set off the moment your bags are loaded, stop wherever the view earns it, and still have wheels for Perast, Lovcen and the coast once you have checked in.
