For two adults it works well. The boot takes one medium case with a rucksack squeezed alongside, or two cabin cases. Four adults will be cramped on anything longer than a short drive, and the rear seats are genuinely for children or short journeys.

This is where the car earns its keep. It is short enough to slot into the awkward gaps along the coastal road and much less stressful in the tight lanes near the old towns than anything bigger. Note that vehicles are not permitted inside the old town walls themselves, so you will still be parking outside.

Small-engined city cars in this class need to be worked harder on sustained climbs, so expect to drop a gear or two and take it steadily. It will get up there without drama, just not quickly. If your itinerary is mainly northern mountains rather than coast, a larger car will feel more relaxed.

A credit card is never required with us. The deposit is taken at pickup and most often in cash; 366 of our 380 cars accept a cash deposit. Some cars carry no deposit at all, and on others a paid service removes it, so check what the listing says for the 500 you choose.

Free cancellation applies to many cars in the fleet, though not all of them. Where it does apply, cancelling more than 24 hours before pickup returns your advance payment in full. The cancellation terms for the specific car are shown before you pay.
